Volunteer of the Month: Rheba Hardin
Memphis Union Mission is pleased to recognize
Rheba Hardin as our March Volunteer of the Month.
Around Moriah House, Rheba is known as "Ms. Home Improvement."
She is a well-rounded volunteer, as she has helped in a wide
variety of tasks at Moriah House for over five years.
"She is truly handy at just about everything," says Alice
Jackson, one of the Moriah House staff counselors. "Rheba has
the spiritual gift of service and it is evident in her attitude, her
faithfulness and her desire to do what God asks of her."
When Rheba first started volunteering at Moriah House, she began
by helping with various tasks around the building.
"What I did was fix stuff like dresser drawers
and other things that needed to be repaired – little things that
would go wrong," says Rheba.
Rheba continues to help with these kinds of tasks, and she also
teaches clients about basic home maintenance, like how to
properly maintain a vacuum cleaner or sewing machine.
And if you call Moriah House, on any given day you'll often hear
Rheba's voice first, as she also answers the phones at Moriah
House every Tuesday, as well as other days when needed.
Rheba has also helped clients at Moriah House spiritually by
leading them through the "Experiencing God" curriculum on a
one-on-one basis.
When asked what she enjoys most about volunteering at Moriah
House, she describes the joy of seeing clients receive Christ
and experience new life in him.
"I enjoy working here," she says. "It's
very satisfying to see lives changed."
"The Moriah House is unique; I don't know of another place like
it anywhere," she continues. "I don't think the
clients can come through these doors without being confronted with
the Lord Jesus Christ."
Of course, part of why clients encounter the love of Christ is
because of volunteers like Rheba, who give selflessly of their
time and energy to reach out to others.
We certainly appreciate what Rheba does for our Moriah House
program, and that is why she is our March Volunteer of the
Month. Please join us in thanking her for her hard work,
commitment, and faithfulness!
